A Nigerian priest identified as Patrick Edet has established his own church after resigning from a Catholic church.
Edet who had been a Catholic priest for more than eleven years started his own church in the capital of Akwa Ibom state, Uyo.
The priest stunned the Catholic community in Akwa Ibom after he announced his resignation on a live radio programme.
During the programme, he stated that he plans to live his life as an independent cleric.
According to Premium Times, after the priest announced his decision on radio, the Catholic church went ahead to strip him of the rights and privileges he enjoyed as priest of the church.
It was gathered that Catholics were also barred from attending Edet’s church but despite the ban by Catholic Bishop of Uyo John Ayah, some members attended his church.
Edet has received a large audience since he launched a “mega revival” programme at his outreach on September 1. The priest tagged the eight-day programme “The Great Awakening”.
